Do you have a communications plan with your family when cell services are down or overwhelmed during a disaster? Think back to the impact that came from the destruction of the AT&T building in Nashville or the disabling of Verizon Wireless for most of the United States from solar storms? Join this class to fill in that gap in your preparedness plan. Amateur radio is a personal radio service that provides the operator with access to thousands of frequencies and modes (think voice as well as digital communication) that will re-connect you with your loved ones, spread good will with like-minded people in your neighborhood as well as around the world, and give you a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction as you help others in need . Individuals and families are encouraged to enroll in this course. If your group (civic organization, volunteer groups, etc.) would like a customized, personal session arranged at your convenience and location we will be happy to accommodate. Discounts for group sessions will be offered. This course requires self-study during the week of about 30 minutes per day. The material covers the knowledge needed to pass the Federal Communications Commission Technician License exam. The in-person sessions will focus on the hands-on building, maintaining, and operation of an amateur radio station. Study materials will be provided on the first day of class.
